Vehicle Description 1968 Chrysler 300 2-Door hardtop
California Car, 440 V8, Upgrades
Special factory 440-powered 1968 Chrysler 300 Hardtop for sale. This unique California example was delivered new with Chrysler's high-performance L-code 440 V8 and finished in Bright Red (PP1) over a black interior. This pillarless hardtop is complemented by a white vinyl top and upgraded with an Edelbrock dual-quad intake manifold, dual Edelbrock four-barrel carburetors, front disc brakes, dual exhaust, chrome Chrysler road wheels, and its original automatic transmission. The sale includes a California title.
The 440 cubic-inch RB-series V8 (casting number 2536430-8) starts easily, runs smoothly, and idles well with plenty of big-block power. It has been upgraded with an Edelbrock aluminum dual-quad intake manifold, dual Edelbrock four-barrel carburetors, Mopar Performance finned aluminum valve covers, headers, an electric fuel pump with regulator, and a custom dual exhaust system with dual mufflers that delivers the unmistakable sound expected of a healthy Mopar big block. Recent maintenance includes a new distributor, new ignition wires, a new fan clutch, and a new battery. An aftermarket electronic ignition system was installed but began to fail shortly after our photography session, so it was replaced with a conventional ignition system that has proven reliable and operates as intended. Power is routed through Chrysler's legendary TorqueFlite automatic transmission, which shifts smoothly through each gear. Power steering, power front disc brakes, and a well-sorted suspension provide confident handling and a comfortable ride, making this Chrysler an effortless highway cruiser that's equally enjoyable around town or on weekend drives.
The Bright Red paint has a deep shine and presents exceptionally well, complementing the long, dramatic lines that make the 1968 Chrysler 300 one of the most distinctive personal luxury cars of its era. The white vinyl top, glass, chrome, stainless trim, and exterior emblems all show very well, giving the car a clean, well-maintained appearance. The signature vacuum-operated hidden headlamps function properly, adding to the car's unmistakable presence. It rides on aftermarket chrome five-spoke wheels with painted red centers wrapped in Hercules Touring GLS P225/75R15 wide whitewall radial tires. The tires show even wear with good remaining tread, while the chrome wheels retain a bright finish with only minor cosmetic imperfections and a few small paint chips on the painted centers consistent with normal use.
The body panels exhibit excellent overall fit, while the brightwork and unique full-width grille make a striking first impression. The sculpted rear quarters and distinctive taillight panel remain unmistakably Chrysler. A custom dual exhaust with polished rectangular tips adds a subtle performance touch without detracting from the car's classic styling. Overall, this Chrysler has outstanding curb appeal and is a car that draws attention wherever it goes. In addition, it has a solid, clean and rust-free undercarriage.
The black interior is comfortable, inviting, and presents very well throughout. The front and rear bench seats retain clean upholstery with good padding and only light wear consistent with normal use. The dash pad is clean, the door panels and interior trim remain in very nice condition, and the carpeting has been replaced and presents well throughout the cabin. The original steering wheel, factory instrument panel, and AM/FM radio remain in place, preserving the car's period-correct appearance. A new heater core has been installed, while the factory air conditioning components have been removed. Two auxiliary gauges have been discreetly mounted beneath the dashboard to monitor engine vitals. The clock is currently inoperative, and the headliner is generally presentable but has a small tear near the driver's sun visor that has been temporarily secured with tape. The trunk is clean and neatly carp |
